THE RACE PACE COACHES

Peter and Jacque McKenzie are committed to excellence in coaching, whilst at the same time making it fun for all. There is a healthy social presence in our group where family involvement is seen and encouraged. “We feel we have all of the experience necessary to drive the organisation forward in the future. That experience has been gained across a number of sports and organisations.

Peter McKenzie

Peter is an accomplished sportsman. He has been a regional representative in Rugby League and Cricket and was awarded a Blue for Cricket and Rugby at Armidale Teachers College. He was captain of the NSW Schoolboys Country Cricket Team, in the NSW North Coast Senior Representative team, and Captain of a premiership winning Rugby League team. Peter was a member of the Surf Lifesaving movement competing in water events and has been an A grade Golfer and pennants player. He has also participated in triathlon and running events including Marathon and Half Marathon.

Peter has had 45 years of sports coaching experience. He  has coached numerous triathletes to Age - Group wins and World Championships teams, as well as premiership winning teams in three different sports - Rugby League, Cricket and Basketball. He has coached Rugby League professionally and holds a Level 1 Coaching Certificate.

He was on the coaching panel at the renowned Palm Beach School of Sports Excellence for 10 yearswhere he played a part in the developing careers of some 13 Rugby League players who have gone on to play professionally in the NRL, including two who have become Australian representatives. He was also Coach /Manager for South Coast Schools Triathlon for 4 years whilst at Palm Beach.

Well known Ironman athlete Luke McKenzie an 8 Time Ironman champion and second placed finisher at Kona, is Peter’s son and Peter has played an active role in advising and mentoring Luke through a very successful professional career. He also developed pro athletes, Guy Crawford ( a professional 70.3 and Ironman athlete) and Brandon Copeland ( a member of Triathlon Australia’s National Talent Academy) from age group through to professional ranks.


  • Peter is a past member of the Triathlon Queensland Junior Development committee.

  • He has been a Triathlon Australia Junior Development Coach, and a past Treasurer of Queensland Schools Triathlon - a position he held for 4 years.

  • Peter is a Triathlon Australia Performance Coach (Level 2)  

  • Athletics Australia Level 2 Recreational Running Coach

  • He is also a Certified Hypnosis,Time Line Therapy, NLP and Personal (Life) Coach. 

Jacque McKenzie

Jacque moved to the Sunshine Coast mid 2014 with a passion for working with and helping kids stay fit and active. Jacque quickly established herself as a swim instructor taking lessons for the local community. 

With Jacque's swimming and personal training qualifications/background and Peter's sports and triathlon coaching qualifications experience, the father daughter duo joined forces and provided a weekly running/fitness session for the local kids. Jacque gained her Level 1 Triathlon Coaching qualification in 2015, this was the birth of The Race Pace Junior Squad. Jacque continued further self develpoment and gained her Level 2 Performance Coaching qualification in 2018.

 Race Pace juniors numbers in the squad have grown to 50+ participating in the various swim, bike, run, transition and squad events on a weekly bases. Jacque co-ordinates and coaches the Race Pace Juniors, females and adults in conjunction with Peter.

With Jacque's years of experience as a swim instructor and having been coached for many years as a swimmer herself under the watchful eye of, Denis Cotterell, an Australian Long Course Olympic Swimming coach, she is responsible for the Race Pace Coaching Swimming program by writing and delivering the swim sessions and stroke development sessions.

Jacque and Peter provide a fun, safe, social environment for children and adults to grow and develop into great athletes and achieve their personal goals!

Jacque is a former AIS Scholarship holder in Triathlon, a former State Swimming Champion (in NSW and QLD) and has competed at a National Level in Swimming for both NSW and QLD. Jacque was a Silver Medallist at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships. In Triathlon she was a Gold Medalist in her age category at IM NZ in 2008 and a two time IM Hawaii World Championship qualifier in 2007 and 2008. Jacque was also an Age Group Silver Medallist at the World Olympic Distance Triathlon Championships and was a member of the Australian AIS Junior Elite World Championship Team.
